- Dr. Hauer-Jensen is Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Surgery, and Pathology at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) and Staff Surgeon at Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System (CAVHS).
- Dr. Hauer-Jensen’s research focuses on cancer survivorship issues, particularly on how to make radiation therapy more tolerable, safer, and more effective, and on development of medical countermeasures against radiological/nuclear accidents or terrorism.
- Dr. Hauer-Jensen is co-leader of the Interventional Oncology and Host Response and Radiation Sciences Program.
- Dr. Hauer-Jensen has published more than 200 peer reviewed scientific articles and book chapters. His research has received support from the American Cancer Society, Veterans Administration, National Cancer Institute (NCI), National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease (NIAID), Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) of the Department of Defense, and Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) .
- Dr. Hauer-Jensen serves on several national and international peer review panels, task forces, and advisory boards. He was recently chairman of the Radiation Therapeutics and Biology Study Section, the panel that reviews radiation-related projects submitted to the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
- Dr. Hauer-Jensen received the American Cancer Society’s Legend Award for Cancer Research in 2004, has been listed in Best Doctors in America 8 times during the past 10 years, and received a MERIT (Mechanism to Extend Research in Time) award from the NIH in 2008. He is currently President Elect of the Radiation Research Society.
