Education & Training

  • Dr. Penthala received his Ph. D in Synthetic Organic Chemistry from National Institute of Technology (Warangal, Telangana, India) and worked as Scientist in Chemical Research Division, Aurobindo Pharma Ltd, R&D.
  • Dr. Penthala received his post doctoral training at University of Kentucky, Lexington, KY, USA and University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS), USA

Research & Scholarly Interests

Our research group focuses on the design, synthesis, and structure-activity relationship study of novel bio-film formation inhibitors and radio sensitizing agents. We are also focusing on the design and synthesis of natural product based Combretastatin A-4 analogs as anti-cancer agents and also sesquiterpene lactone Parthenolide analogs Melampomagnolide B, Micheliolide prodrugs and co-drugs as anti-leukemic agents. Our research group is also interested in the eco-friendly process development of Active Pharma Ingredients (API) , in cost effective synthetic methodologies including Microwave Irradiation techniques in order to prepare the library of compounds in short time with good quality and yield.

Honors & Awards

Received the award from Elsevier publishers for the most cited article (2005-2008), “Sulfamic acid: a novel and efficient catalyst for the synthesis of aryl-14 H-dibenzo[a.j]xanthenes in conventional heating and microwave irradiation”. Tetrahedron Letters, 46 (50) 2005, 8691-8693. .
