Background

This PGY1 Pharmacy Residency aims to provide the candidate with knowledge regarding managing the pharmacy benefits in employee health plans. Focus is placed on developing skills to help design strategic interventions to provide clinically defensible ways to efficiently provide cost savings to plans through the pharmacy benefit. Much emphasis is placed on critical appraisal of the medical literature and in applying evidence-based medicine skills in creating strategic drug policy. The resident will develop strong clinical skills, precept pharmacy students, facilitate Therapeutics case recitation or provide supplemental instruction, and provide instruction in the Evidence-based Medicine course. Upon successful completion of the program, residents are awarded a residency certificate.

Additional responsibilities/projects throughout the year include:

Provide at least 1 month of APPE on a general medicine service

  • Provide a semester of support in the Therapeutics courses (by providing supplemental instruction or leading case recitation)
  • Complete a medication use evaluation
  • Design and conduct a research project & present at a national meeting
  • Complete the UAMS College of Pharmacy Teaching Certificate Program (optional)
  • Present a poster at the AR Association of Hospital Pharmacists
